Giraffe Manor in Nairobi offers a unique experience: having breakfast with the endangered Rothschild giraffes.
The incredible possibility to be on eye level with those long necked blondes is the main reason why people from all over the world want to stay at this exclusive boutique hotel.
However the price per night, starting from $565 per person, makes many reconsider staying at the Manor.
We visit this amazing place anyway, because how often do you get the chance to wake up for breakfast with giraffes? 😉
As a matter of fact we did not regret it and we put together 5 reasons why staying at Giraffe Manor is absolutely worth the money.
5. GIRAFFE MANORS STUNNING ATMOSPHERE
Built in 1932 and modeled after a Scottish hunting house the original Manor still impresses with his extraordinary appeal.
The magnificent façade, the elegant interior and the beautiful garden makes today’s guests feel like traveling back in time and experiencing an area of delightful elegance in the middle of Kenyan wildlife.
In 2011 the property, set on 12 acres private land within 140 acres of indigenous forest, was extended by the Garden Manor. It was built in harmony with the Main Manor making the total amount of 12 fascinating rooms. Some of those are perfectly located to share breakfast in bed with the world’s largest animals.
4. THE INCREDIBLE SERVICE AT GIRAFFE MANOR
As an exclusive boutique hotel the Manor’s staff is excellently trained. Everyone makes sure that your stay is extraordinary by courtesies like serving your favorite aperitifs, lighting a cozy fire in your room and organizing your daily program.
We stayed at Giraffe Manor for 2 nights, which gave us the chance to share breakfast with the giraffes twice and we had enough time to participate in the additional activities.
Our 2-day Program included:
· Visiting the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust where you can feed and adopt baby elephants.
· Taking a guided walk to the AFEW Giraffe Center, which was founded and still runs as a breeding center to protect the endangered Rothschild giraffes.
· Discovering the history of the famous author Karen Blixen in the Karen Blixen Museum.
· Enjoying afternoon tea & delicious scones at the terrace.
· Breakfast and afternoon tea with Rothschild giraffes.
3. THE MOST DELICIOUS FOOD AT GIRAFFE MANOR
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are prepared from experienced and passionate chefs. The guest’s well-being is always in focus.
Breakfast is the most popular menu of the day at Giraffe Manor.
When the first guests arrive at their table at 6.30 AM everything is perfectly arranged. Eggs, muesli, cakes and of course the food for the giraffes. The first meal of the day starts with some extra special guests.
2. SUPPORTING THE AFRICAN WILDLIFE WHILE STAYING AT GIRAFFE MANOR
On the land which was once part of the Giraffe Manor Betty and Jock Leslie Melville founded the AFEW Giraffe Centre with the purpose of a breeding program to reintroduce the, at that time, endangered Rothschild giraffes back into the wild.
Staying at the Manor gives you the ultimate chance to get a guided tour through the Giraffe Center supporting their important cause.
Another amazing organization is the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which is only a short car ride from the Giraffe Manor.
Its mission is to monitor the wildlife area and preventing illegal activities while adopting and nurturing baby elephant and rhino orphans. Just ask in the Manor and you will get a ride.
1. BREAKFAST WITH GIRAFFES AT GIRAFFE MANOR
The ultimate highlight and the best reason why Giraffe Manor is worth the money is the possibility of sharing your breakfast with the world’s largest animals.
The possibility of feeding and interacting with Rothschild giraffes before enjoying your own breakfast is an experience you won’t ever forget.
Even better you get another chance of being face to face with the giraffes in the afternoon during tea time when only a small fence separates you from those majestic animals.
If you are lucky you will even get an antiseptic giraffe kiss.
